Let’s start out with a good joke…

Mr. Online and Mr. Offline are sitting in a bar discussing their various marketing tactics when in walks the young, voluptuous Miss Mobile; after a few drinks they strike up a conversation. “Hey, why not come over to Facebook and we can Google together” says Mr. Online. Immediately Mr. Offline pipes in, “Hey, forget that, I can get you on billboards or perhaps a magazine spread.” Totally unimpressed, Miss Mobile strolls to the door, turning to say, “Sorry guys, it sounds like neither of you are in to TEXT.”

At first you laugh, but then reality sinks in… when it comes to your business, when was the last time you used SMS TEXT? Yet, can you think of anything that is more pervasive and more intimate with the majority of your potential clients and customers than the communication medium of mobile phones? Let’s examine the facts: over 95% of SMS TEXT messages are viewed, 62% are remembered and 22% of value-add messages are forwarded to friends. Roughly half of mobile subscribers use SMS in the U.S today.

• The average consumer is only in front of their
computer about 2 hour 28 min a day, yet they
always have a mobile phone with them, 24/7 and
virtually never turn it off?

• There are more Mobile phones on the planets than
automobiles, TVs, computers or credit cards.

• 53% of people use their mobile phones for up to an
hour while shopping

• 57% of people report that they want to receive
Mobile Coupons on their phone.

• The question is… are you engaging your prospects
or customers (in any way) via Mobile?

4.6 BILLION WHAT?

Those facts are mind-blowing and hopefully enough to pique your marketing interest. Yes… 4.6 billion mobile devices are conveniently nestled in the pockets of the very people you’d like to reach and it’s rare that anyone turns their mobile device off.  Now, are you using TEXT to connect prospects to your business? Do you have a mobile web site? Hmmm….

If you reread the “Mr. Online, Mr. Offline and Miss Mobile” joke I began with, you will realize that the challenge underlying this joke is not that any one marketing media type is better, rather it is that they are NOT connecting. There’s a GAP between them that IF BRIDGED would optimize how they flow and work together. It’s an inconvenient truth that marketing via multiple media is a far better strategy for any business than to rely too heavily on just one. Unfortunately, so many businesses are either online or offline and they rarely venture across the GAP in any intelligent way.

Here is your NEW mission statement:

I’ll NEVER Do Another Marketing Campaign Without Thinking Mobile.

Make it an awesome week!

Mobile… a Game Changing Technology

Yes, wireless technology has changed the way people use the internet forever.

More and more people are relying on mobile devices for access to the internet while they are out and about and did you know that the number of mobile phones in use on the planet is greater than the number of desktop computers in use today.

In fact there are more mobile phones in the world today than televisions and PCs combined. And millions of people are using those mobile phones to connect to the Internet to find the information they need while away from their computers.

Those who recognize this trend and adapt their marketing strategies accordingly will benefit now and well into the future. Those who position themselves early on in this game changing technological shift will have solidified their position as a leader and as others try to catch-up the leaders will already be firmly established at the top.

Why you Need Mobile Ready Website

It seems like everyone is marketing things online these days, but some of the internet marketing tips you find online or in marketing strategy books just don’t seem to fit with your site or your marketing plan.  Some, in fact, deal with spamming or posting your website all over, and you may not be very comfortable with that.  Below are some internet marketing tips that may be more in like with your personal philosophy.

The more important practice in internet marketing is to be careful with your website.  Many people, especially those who have never done a website before, want to make it very colorful or use a lot of fancy animation and such.  After all, the idea is to make it grab the viewer’s attention, right?

Not exactly!  While walking past a decorated store window may grab people’s attention, it doesn’t quite work that way online.  No one is simply walking past your site.  If they’re on your page, you’ve got their attention.  What you want to convey right off is what your site or business is about and what you can offer them, not blind them with bright colors.

Those fancy flash menus, movies, and animation aren’t necessary either.  The menus can be
fine but you want to minimize the number of animations and large graphics on your main page.
These graphics can take extra time to download, and the animations might actually cause
your viewer’s computer to act up if they don’t have the right version of Flash or other add
-on installed.

The menus, too, can cause some issues with older versions of internet browsers.  Look for
some internet marketing examples that use menus that require no extra add-ons or use add-ons
that are very, very common.  You don’t want a potential customer leaving your website in
annoyance because your menu didn’t load or work correctly.

Be aware of the amount of content on your pages too.  Users don’t always want to read huge chunks of text on their monitors, especially since it bothers some people’s eyes.  Instead, break up your text into different pages.  That’s not to say that you want a bunch of short pages, but you want each major topic or area to have its own page.

If you’re selling items from your website, make certain to set up a way to search your site
for particular items.  You’ll also want to allow the user to browse your products by
different ways—product name and product category are good ideas.  Give your customer as many options for finding things as you can.

It’s hard to say exactly what a “great” website is, especially since what’s good and bad can
differ by industry or niche.  The best advice for designing your website and for marketing
on the internet in general is to look at sites in the same market as your site.  Incorporate
things you like from those sites into yours.  The best internet marketing tips, after
all, are successful sites that attract a lot of customers.
